Passed Uber on-site, but can't proceed because of hiring freeze. Should I wait for the lift or move on?

To those of you in a similar situation, what's your plan? How long do these type of freezes last usually?

Happened to me for Google and LinkedIn. Cleared Hiring Committee for both but can’t do team matching because there is a hiring freeze and there is no guarantee as to when the positions will open up again.

It sucks but I am taking another offer.

If you’re at GS you’re probably not a good fit culturally for google or LinkedIn. Perhaps that’s why?

@airnew that’s baseless. Please search on Blind with the phrase: “Google Low Headcount” or “Linkedin Low Headcount”.

People have been queued since April for Google, in particular.

GS eng are typically just code monkeys taking orders from project management or traders. Leave before your brain is rotten.

I couldn’t agree more TBH. I want to get out of the Finance industry for good.

Disheartening to say this, but don't wait. Check back in a year. Things are very chaotic inside.

What kind of level of that, where Google and LinkedIn have hiring freeze?
      Aug 9
    • Goldman Sachs faith91
The lowest levels L3 (Google) and SWE (LinkedIn).

L4 (Google) and Senior SWE (LinkedIn) pipelines also have long queues but aren’t frozen.

Interesting. Find it rather odd that Google would be in hiring freeze... Anyway, good luck. Don't wait for Uber

Considering lock in period is about to end for their investors, their stock will be impacted if the investors choose to sell some equities for profits. In which scenario, they would have to freeze their hiring for bit more time. I’d suggest interviewing at other places And lookout for opportunities at Uber in future. This is my perspective.

Why would you want to wait for something that is unknown?

      OP
I didn't know it was unknown and I'm also not too familiar with how long these type of things usually happen.

I have a few other opportunities on the table and wanted to make an informed decision before just totally ignoring Uber.

Move on. Not worth joining even without freeze. Stock is falling. No signs of profits. It's just a company waiting to implode.

Just take another offer for now. If Uber comes back and give you an offer, switch again. Or use that to get a counter offer. What's the harm.

I clearly don't understand what do you even want to wait for here?

I can't switch companies willy nilly, so that's why I asked how realistic it is to still consider Uber. That's all.
