Pay differences in SF and non SF companies

Is it fair to say that google/facebook pay higher coz their per employee rent is lower? Also, should expect less money from salesforce and other companies employing in the city coz they anyways pay higher cost for your desk space?

The amount saved on actual commercial real estate is negligible.

They took the savings from a recent downsizing (axed the letters e, a, u, and s) and put it towards higher base salaries for remaining staff.
