Working at Microsoft as SDE 2 with yearly W2 income around 170K. If I decide to move to Microsoft/Amazon Vancouver in comparable role then what will be my yearly income there? 170K CAD is doable??
No expect a 20% paycut in salary without looking at currency conversion. With currency conversion, expect a 35% paycut. With taxes included, expect a 45% paycut. Enjoy the free healthcare tho
Are you in Vancouver? Wondering what is your source? Also taxes difference will be seen if you are not from California. If you are paying taxes in Cali it wont matter much. And yes, you will enjoy PR status and privileges in a year or two.
Thank you for the information
Anyone else has any idea? No one here did such move before?
Do not rely on what people say here. Talk to someone who has either worked in Canada or is currently in Canada
I am trying to find someone who has doe this but don’t have any luck in finding such person. I thought let’s try here I might get some response
I know a Canadian coworker in the Van office. He says pay is significantly less there. But he also says it's worth it to him since he loves Vancouver.
Can't speak to sd2, but sd1 is about 90-100 CAD. Great place to live though, gladly take the salary cut to be in Canada.

170k is pretty good. Vancouver is expensive by Canadian standards but comparable to Seattle and cheaper than SF. Real estate is expensive but rents are not that bad.
I think I didn’t explain my question correctly. My bad, sorry. I am asking if Microsoft/Amazon at Vancouver pays 170k to SDE 2? Are there any SDE 2 here on blind who are getting paid that in Vancouver?
