People who "Work from Home"

Credit Karma / Eng Bathroom

I'm getting sick of people who come up with any excuse to "Work from Home".

You're not working. I can tell by your slack indicator that you haven't been online for the last 3 hours. Getting sick of pulling extra hours to get these projects completed due to WFH people.

If everyone just put in their 40 hours we wouldn't be in crunch mode all the time.

Edit: Guys I get that people can get a lot of work done at home. I definitely can. I am not mad at those who are actually at home working. I'm talking about people who abuse work from home privileges and who aren't actually working (taking a nap, watching movies, playing video games, etc)

This may surprise you but turning off slack for 3 hours can produce quite a productive environment

What’s the guarantee that they are putting in work greater than 2 hours when they are in office ?

Because it is obvious that more is being accomplished when they are at home actually working.

A typical work from home day for some people is editing 5 lines of code in some random unit test or fixing a single merge conflict.

I can defiantly get more done working from home for 3 hours than I can when I am in the office for 9.

I get way more done without distractions at home in half the time. Take a break, chill out and wfh also some. This isn’t a race after all 😉

Not necessarily, but you have to admit that the number of closed tasks strongly correlates with the number hours people spent working.

People like OP make toxic teams. If he's jumping to conclusions now, think about what else he accused people. Why isn't X done yet? Must be because of laziness and not people one of a million things came up.

OP, work may be your life but it's not other peoples'. Focus on your work and let others fall behind on their work. If you are forced to pick up the slack, then move companies because the culture doesn't fit you.

Exactly! CK already treats wfh as a taboo. And people like OP just ruin it for everyone.

Yeah because going into an office where you are sitting elbow to elbow with 75 people in your immediate vicinity is so much better for productivity.

Open office seating necessitates working from home. My most productive days are when I can avoid the office

How about treating all co workers as responsible adults? You must be that pain in the ass PM who thinks more hours means more productivity! It must be you they are trying to avoid!

This is actually a huge issue at Credit Karma in particular. I agree it would be best if everyone could take responsibility for their work and then we could say who cares where they work from. This wasn’t an issue at my past companies.

Or one of those people that thinks sending emails at 10 pm makes them look like a hard worker...nope, makes you look like you can't manage your work or time...

    • Marqeta MxWT01
Those people who send emails at 10pm, might be someone who needs to go to the nursing home to visit their mom several days a week, and had to leave at 4 or 5 and can only get back to complete the day around 9. Same for parents.

Who actually even ever puts in 40 hours? I see people sitting at a desk for 60+ jaw jacking, jerking, and watching the tube but they rarely exceed 10 hours of work - and they are always complaining nobody else works as hard. I have a job, I work until it's done. If it's a 5 hour week or a 100 hour week - nobody else should care. If they do care they're clearly spending too much time caring and not working hard enough

And what team would that be? Have you brought this up with your manager? If your team is not delivering work on time, has no one noticed that? How do you get your OKRs done?

OP - FWIW, I agree with you that this is a huge problem at Credit Karma. It seems like you’re getting negative feedback from people at companies where this isn’t such an issue.

How about the office workers who are doing nothing while in the office other than cruise the halls, raid the snacks and sit alone in a 5 person conference rooms. Does that bother you?

CK “work hours” are roll in around 10AM, fuck off in the the cafe a while, disappear to head home between 4-4:30. WFH would be more productive versus what goes on in the office.

I totally understand your frustration as I’ve seen similar situations as well; but I actually realized that I am actually more productive at home. I don’t know exactly why, but it’s somehow true.

OP sounds like someone who wouldn't do any work if he got to work from home. Such people are not a good fit for the flexibility of working from home.
