Sde1 currently on Dev plan. Admittedly came in with a lot of weaknesses but felt like I was turning myself around the past few months. Guess I thought wrong. Looking to leave Amazon but struggling with low confidence and having a hard time separating "bad fit for Amazon" from "bad engineer." Can't stop ruminating. Wondering how others are doing now.
How long did you survive at Amazon? Was it your first job?
Dont worry it happens. Dont let this define you for who you are. Leetcode and get that better job offer!
Amazon won't care of weak employee. Manager prefer to spend time with the strong one. You better choose another company over keep fighting in Amazon. You will get more better opportunity and respect outside. And once put on PIP no point staying unless you won't get opportunities outside. So start LC and make the move.
Learn from this and see what your weaknesses are and improve on em. I know I sure did.
I wasn't exactly PIPed, but was an intern at Amazon in college who didn't get an offer to join back as full time employee. The managers threw all kinds of crap at me like I am a bad culture fit, lower the bar of the team and can't code property. I was at a very bad place after that. But pulled myself after sometime and interviewed again and came back to Amazon after a year as FTE. Now I'm leaving for Google. Things will get better.
Yup when you get PIP sometimes its not because you are a bad engineer. There are other factors in play as well (bad manager, politics, org not doing well, etc)
In my case it was 75% deserved but most of that was due to having a truly awful home life that affected my mental and physical health.
I
I’m sorry to hear that. What’s your background like
Career switcher, have a masters in CS. Was a returning intern.
