What's your problem? Do you realize how frustrating it is to pair program with you when instead of using bash reverse search for finding a command you need to M a n u a l l l y t y p e it in then the arguments is wrong and you need to read the help output. Imagine doing this 10 times per day, that's several hours per month! Or opening files by using the mouse and menus instead of like shift ctrl o with interactive search why don't you know your own tools?
I have seen some things that make me puke. Not using ctrl+c but instead right clicking to copy should be a fireable offense. I had to pair program a couple of times where the other person didn’t know to touch type and instead used only their index finger to type. That’s why I’m a firm believer in having at least one round where the person has to type code. Not putting in any effort to learn shortcuts shows a lot about someone’s attitude towards learning.
I’d rather hire someone who has domain knowledge than someone with 0 knowledge who knows shortcuts to some editors. The 2nd can be learnt in a few mins. Yea the first one should know those too. People can do both Ctrl+c and click+copy. It’s not a fireable offense.
I agree. I just have seen that there is a strong correlation between not knowing how to code and not knowing how to use the keyboard.
Cool story bro. Have you tried asking them directly, instead of complaining to a bunch of strangers on Blind?
Why not take it as an opportunity to teach them a shortcut or two? "I saw that you typed in the last command more t,han once, I know this neat trick called reverse search that might make your life easier!"
I do this, 2 years later of consistently teaching them shortcuts they finally started using some
holy FUCK this is so true part of me thinks they haven't been in the job long or haven't done enough developing in their life to even discover the shortcuts aka the hack jobs every company hires these days
