I got a PhD admit at Stanford under a world renowned Prof's lab and Amazon seems like dirt to me reg. my long and short term interests. Any way around paying back prorated relocation costs to Amazon. Had taken a cheaper relocation package option. If no other option, so be it and I won't think about it a second time. But if there is an easy way, I'd like to go for it and not let it trickle by. Cheers

  • Why don't you just honor the contract that you signed and stop impugning the company?

    • You ARE genuinely the most ethically compromised person I have ever encountered. Amazon has got nothing to do with it, it's the 100% shit that you are!

Haha these two are Amazon spies trying to clean the dirt that Amazon is. Unfortunately it's too huge an overflowing toilet for two chums to clean.

Congratulations. You are smart and rare to have got into Stanford. Amazon is for every lame fella. Stanford MIT etc are rear gems in this world. Plan to be a tenure track professor? Best job ever

If you equate someone with common sense to Einstein, I wonder what that says about your own intelligence.

So you are here to ask how to not pay back the money you owned to your employer? You got accepted to one of the best tech companies and then the best university but don’t like to pay back what you owned to others? That’s who you want to be ?

There is plenty of real tech work at Amazon. Sounds like you were in a bad team/org. Sorry to hear that. Choose carefully in the future - there are lots of people doing shitty plumbing work at Google too.

For AMZNs business minded frugal, cheap pockets, coming back after 5 years would sound like 'don't bs us'. Did it work for anyone?

I heard even if you don't pay back nothing would happen to you. Amazon won't sue you

This is true. They send threatening emails but if it's California (an at will state) they can't get back shit. Just leave and say sorry and you'll pay them back later when you have money. And then never do.

Don’t give anything back to them. Are you here less than a year? If yes you also don’t have to give back the sign on bonus. Everyone I know did that

The key is to not give 2 weeks notice for them to figure out you owned than money. Quick the day you give notice.

Dud you don’t want to pay back the bonus and relocation package but worried about unprofessional? Do you want to keep your money or not? I am telling me how to do things the right way. Grow up and fuck them up. Also make sure you deactivate your direct deposit account so they won’t be able to deduct money from it.

If you didn't stay long enough such that you have to pay back relocation, the chances are you haven't accrued enough vacation days anyway to matter. But when you leave the company, any unused vacation days will be paid to you in cash. I'm guessing taking all if that out - unpaid vacation, last pay cheque etc should more than offset your unpaid relocation costs...

Ask nicely and suck up and try to cut a deal. Tell them how wonderful they are, how much you enjoyed working there and how you want to come back when you are done. .
