I'm pursuing Data scientist role and have decided to go for a 4+ year PhD program in Data science that involves some research work. Most programs available in the US are 2 years of Masters program in Data science. Any suggestion / lead ?
Save yourself the trouble and go for masters instead
Wtf is a PhD in data science? That's the biggest bullshit I've seen and I have a PhD. PS it's not in data science and my job title is data/applied scientist.
Could it be just a PhD in CS with a data science / ML project?
Join a CS department research group with ML or Data Science focus. You will learn to develop new algorithms as well as skills to execute them at scale. Statistics could be option if you want to go theoretical. CS would have the right balance between the math and application aspects.PM me if you want to connect with people who did PhDs in CS with ML/ Data Science research and now work at FAANG.
There’s no legitimate PhD in data science.
Try Information Systems instead
Are they legit? It’s DBA type of shit, I think. I’d go for a real discipline like CS or statistics.
