I'm a clinical pharmacist in Seattle with a strong background in research and academia interested in working for a tech company. Can I make the transition with my current skill set? If not, what skills and training should I pursue (while maintaining my full time job as I must provide for my family). Appreciate any and all advice!
Nice waste of a degree.
I’d suggest the MBA —> PM route. If you’re really must get into in programming, then try a reputed boot camp. You won’t pull FAANG salaries right out of the gate but will find a coding gig if you’re committed enough.
Which of the two has the most growth potential for TC and for working from home? For clarification since there were some kind of negative comments, I have a doctorate level degree and am heavily involved in academic and research as well as life and death situations with patients. So while my skill set isn't in the world of tech, I feel that I have problem solving skills that are transferrable and I'm willing to start from the bottom and work my way up. I just want to get a good perspective on the best way to set myself up for success.
And thank you very much for a thoughtful reply - I appreciate it!
Your PharmD is useless if you transition into tech. Just aim for PM by getting MBA, but then again your PharmD goes into a trash can. Treat your PharmD cushy job as a way to earn money, and focus on getting to manager role, instead of transitioning into a complete opposite field

Being hurtfully truthful is toxic isnt it
I’m a PharmD and work at a biotech company. What type of tech jobs are you looking at
Just found my post two years later. Still interested in getting into tech. I honestly don't know what roles I could switch into, just that I feel I have hit a glass ceiling as a pharmacist. What kind of work do you do? What is career growth like? What skills should I acquire?
Your skills are valuable at any health tech company: such as Epic, Cerner, GE Healthcare, and large hospitals who need EHR analysts and pharmacy informaticists.
