Has anyone or does anyone know of anybody who has been put on a pip at Google? Google is known to have great wlb and a “chill” culture, so I was just curious if it is not uncommon for an engineer to be on pip. (Or do you really have to suck?)
I know someone who was pip-Ed. They were pushed out pretty quickly and unceremoniously
What is piped?
You have no idea how lucky you are that you don’t know what it is..
What is it?
One of my teammate was pip'ed because he completed a 300 line changeset in 3 months. He was able to tranafer to an internal tools team where there's less impact
I know 2 people who were on PIP. Both were let go. The conclusion is simple - change the teams asap.
Why did they get pipd
I know only one side of the story, from a personal account, and wasn't on their team. In one case, the manger had PIP'd one or two others out earlier. So, I guess it was his type of a crusade, or an immortality project, to hire and then fire those he thought may be underperformers.
Adding further to the question, how does Google deal with underperformers? Will they be moved into different teams with lesser impact?
Lol no they get pip'd. There isn't some purgatory where all poor performers go.
What about gTech?
