Please remember Linkedin is part of Microsoft

LinkedIn super-halo

The only benefit of working at Li is good work and life balance and high hourly pay. However, LinkedIn is part of MS now, and MS is good at controlling ROI.linkedin is a low frequently usage website and technically don’t need to deal with scalability challenge, and you won’t learn any advanced technology or engineering best practices at linkedin. To be honest, Linkefin technology/infra/tools sucks. And I believe the Li will not able to keep low or negative ROI under MS. You don’t have any chance to even use the engineering best practices you were asked during li interview, with low qps, what ever you design will work. I personally regret joining Li so my opinion is biased. Please do your own research.

Waiting for my one year cliff and will run. Li is not a place for engineer still have tech passion and want to achieve engineering excellence. I was fooled by their craftsmanship interview model and I think this is the company cares about craftsmanship. After joining, i realized the company don’t need craftsmanship, it is low qps site, whatever you do will work. And the reason they promote craftsmanship is because they don’t need it. With high qps sites such as google, amazon etc, you have to design it using scalable way with best craftsmanship, otherwise, site will down. Yeah, li is quite bad place for any passionate engineers

Interesting write up, none the less. What do you mean by qps?

It does make sense that scalability isn’t as big a deal there as say google, amazon, etc.

Query per second or DAU. LinkedIn as business is a low frequency usage app. However, its interview process make you feel they are dealing with same scalability problem or tech challenge as other internet giants.

It is matter of time when high compensation practice of linkedin will come under microsoft radar. Usually that leverage is given for 2-3 years and i think that honeymoon period is coming to an end soon.

I feel like we are working at different companies. I came home exhausted after another day of 12 hours work. Projects are challenging in our org. And you got so much time to write these? I’m jealous. lol

Distributed system. To be fair part of the reason is time constraint. Most of the days are like 9 hours.

Not sure which team you are currently in the unfortunate situation of being in..
What I've heard and everyone I talk to has pretty contrary opinions..
Our group also works very closely with some of the back end infrastructure teams - so I know for a fact there are some really interesting and challenging problems faced by engineers there..

If you hate it that much, please resign.. no need to throw your employer under the bus..

Is it just your team using bad tech, or the whole company? I believe you can start using cool open source tech if needed, so that should not be a concern. In Microsoft, the only option is Microsoft/Azure stack tech in most teams.

Something about the way you wrote this makes me think that you're a so so developer and they have you working on lowly tasks.
