You think dumping water on cops (during a heatwave) is on the level of police choking someone to death for selling cigarettes in front of a liquor store?

If you are talking about Eric Garner, his death was unfortunate, but was his own fault. He was breaking the law (stupid laws, but the police don’t get to choose what laws they like or dislike), he resisted arrest (major mistake), and he was in poor health. His poor health caused his death and it was triggered by the attempted choke hold., he was a very big guy making it difficult for the officers to deal with.

Yup, policing policy, courts, etc is the fundamental problem - it’s not just bad apples. But in Garner’s case it was both since the choke-hold was supposedly banned by the NYPD.

    It’s true.

They’re also involved in disproportionately more crimes, and the police officers that fatally shoot them are also more likely to be African-American or Hispanic versus white.

Reality is such a bummer right?

I agree with you, I certainly don’t care about the racial make up of the police department or anything else.

Unfortunately there is a growing segment of our society that seeks to use racial explanations to explain observed inequalities like Incarceration rates and police fatalities.

That’s why cities are carefully balancing the racial profile of the police departments.

Also why we publish studies like this to remind ourselves that no it is a hallucination if you think we live in some White supremacist racist society. Couldn’t be further from the reality.

“Also why we publish studies like this to remind ourselves that no it is a hallucination if you think we live in some White supremacist racist society. Couldn’t be further from the reality.”

But this study, used in that way, is a strawman - it doesn’t counter arguments about why incarceration rates and police violence are racist. Nobody argues that white cops are the source or reason why policing has racist outcomes.

Well I’m glad to hear you agree. I think were more alike than you let on.

Yeah, white supremacist systems don’t exclusively need white people - that’s how whites could be a minority in the Caribbean or Algeria or South Africa but the places were still white supremacist with non-white police or non-white job overseeers.

Stupid question, what is white supremacy? Is it the same thing as western culture? Honestly I don’t really know what we were talking about

why are you posting this? do you actually want to analyze the crime stats or do you just want to encourage misguided activism?

      OP
Did you watch the video? I’m surprised at the restraint the police officers showed. But yeah, so much for black males fearing for their lives when encountering police...

African American murders are also disproportionately targeting African Americans on a scale of roughly 100x the consequences of police brutality.

Black people are 25% of police shootings while committing 40% of the violent crime. Logic would say that those numbers should be roughly equal.

Heart Disease kills more people than the tumor in your urethra, so stop complaining about it.

Good analogy - no one listens to the guy fundraising for urethral cancer when it statistically is insignificant.
