I put forward the maximum salary in my level's band as the expected salary(when asked after team match). The recruiter told me they've created an offer but it needs to be further approved. It's been one and a half weeks but I haven't heard back from the recruiter. Is there a possibility of getting rejected because of high expected compensation (without any negotiation with me)?
This happened with me too. But the recruiter came back and said she could offer xyz and not abc, i said no. She said my salary was greater than their ceo
There's lots of smaller companies with TC in $150K range who think they are competitive.
That is very true.
A good recruiter won’t let this happen before getting back to you with a lower acceptable offer.
“Good” being the operative word there.
It's happened before. But the recruiter has always informed the candidate in my experience
Which company is this for?
Once they say they will give an offer then they will give an offer even if it is lower than what you asked. Everyone knows everyone negotiats. Chill and enjoy the break.
How did you deliver your target number? Did it sound like an ultimatum?
Yeah op said $tc or gtfo
For google recruiter will always come back with an offer regardless of its relative value to your expectations. I didn’t see rejections ( or not trying at all ) just because the ask is too high. I have however seen candidates rejecting offers because the offer was lower than expectations. It happens often in cases where google leveled them lower but somehow their level in their current company and competing offers came out much higher.
Feel free to freak out and speculate on Blind, but for the love of god don’t blink and email the recruiter. Start looking at other opportunities to occupy your time. They’ll respond eventually. Also in the future whenever you reach a point where the ball is heading to their court always ask about when you can expect to hear back. Creates an informal deadline for them and makes it totally legit (vs desperate) when you check in seeking an update.

How many hours a week do you work?
You play the game and you might get burned. You might not though. You live and learn.
Well I never really wanted to put forward any figure, but the recruiter insisted. My want for an offer is higher than my thirst for money. Would be harsh to go through the entire process and not get an offer because my expectation was high.
