From personal experience, I spent 15-20 mins once trying to locate a Harryalking down aisles looking at name tags, eventually locating him to find his polish name on the office door, which is nothing close to Harry. I realize your problem though, just that I don't know if there is a good solution to it.

Google and to a lesser extent Facebook are good at differentiating between legal and preferred name. Forms specify legal name when that's required (e.g. taxes and plane tickets), and otherwise let you use preferred name everywhere.
Nobody gives a shit what you want to be called. What am I missing here?
True, Nobody else does. I come from Asia and my first name is difficult to pronounce. People make mess out of it. So I generally use preferred name at clg and at work.
If people don't try to learn how to say your name properly, they don't deserve your respect.
