Any suggestions , what is a better position to go for ? Full time role with company A (TC 95K ) in Seattle Contract role with Company B through Consulting firm(Ok benefits and paid hourly and Tc yearly amounts 110K in Kansas/Idaho. Is a full time always preferable over a contract role or vice versa ? Suggestions ?
FTE for sure unless you are getting piad absurdly more $. I've consulted and FTE and I've always had a better experience FTE.
Could you tell what was the bad experience with consulting/contracting ? Also how is the immigration stuff when you are contracting and consulting ? And I am talking about reputed American consulting option not any of the desi/Indian ones
Better TC as FTE Better perks as FTE Laid off at a moments notice as a consultant (especially at Microsoft) Depending on team consultants treated like 2nd class citizen even if you're senior level. Unless you join a larger company is rare to see immigration help offered. US consulting firms typically aren't as Shady as the Asian ones but still a lot of mediocre ones.
FTE even if you are getting paid 30% lesser than contractual job.
Thanks ! Good to know. It’s just I have had close 5 YOE and haven’t yet broken through to the 6 figure Base pay or rather even TC , so worried I am falling too far behind in the game or not progressing in my career fast enough. Any thoughts or advice ?
Depends on where your at in life. If you have a family I feel it’s crazy to take a contract job over a full time position. If your single go for it.
FTE no doubt, being a contractor can horrible if you get unlucky and even if works out you’ll never have the job satisfaction or security of FTE. I would never consider being a contractor unless the hourly rate is at least as much as the FTE salary x1000
Thanks ..... valuable advice . Also what do you feel about comcast ? Planning to apply there ? How’s their pay and bonus ? Do they give stocks and signing bonus on offer ?
Basically apart from FAANG , I wanted to know how is it work at Comcast and would it be atleast on par with the likes of intel and such ?
