Principal PM vs Group PM at Walmart Labs
What’s the difference between the 2 roles at Walmart Labs? Is one higher than the other ? @WalmartLabs

No this is based on other companies including microsoft, not sure about Walmart labs specifically tho
Group pm should be managing other pm’s and a portfolio product. Principal is just a rockstar IC. It’s kind of where IC and management track splits.
So are they basically the same level ? Just differing in people management responsibility ?
Not quite that simple, at least at MS. GPM is managing a group of PMs. Principal here can also manage PMs typically under a GPM. A Principal here can also be a GPM or they can be an IC. Principal is a band that includes all of the above. Most of the time you can figure out what role a Principal at MS has by their title. GPM = Principal managing PMs Principal Lead = Principal managing PMs likely under a GPM Principal PM = Principal IC To add to the complexity a Principal can be any level between 65-67 but the title doesn’t necessarily reflect level
GPM is higher usually, but sometimes principal PMs can be GPMs
