Currently working as a contractor at Verizon and got full-time offer as a principal engineer with same team. How much should I expect? Are there sign on bonuses? Don't want to get lowballed so please help. Location: Irving Texas TC: 130k YOE: 10 Years No sponsorship requirements.
I had 140k as a contractor in Houston. I know that the agency charged $145/h while I was getting $67.5. This was in 2019. I got a buddy who has a direct hire here in houston and charges the company $130/h and is getting away with it. So definitely try to go high! Tc 140, 6 yeo
Thanks that gives me an idea how much should I be asking!
I forgot. I got 6 yeo.
I'm in Dallas. Starting in AWS as L5 SA. 175k TC. About same YOE as you. You can definitely ask for more. FWIW a Principal at AWS is L6/L7 target so you can now see how much TC gap you have.
Starting with Amazon AWS? In Dallas or Seattle?
Dallas. Starting in January.
My comp is $165k and I’m a distinguished MTS. $180k is to high for a principal
So DMTS is paid more than PMTS?
Yes DMTS is a level higher than PMTS...both 6V though so the pay scale isn’t that different. I should add I’m on the east coast so COL is at play to some degree I hope you are able to pull $180k as Principal, don’t get me wrong...just trying to set realistic expectations
130K as contractor is through an agency or direct 1099? Sign on bonus is tough to find in Texas to begin with but even harder when you don’t have a narrative about leaving equity on the table from the previous gig. If you’re behind an agency you’re probably getting billed out at 2-3x so they can still be saving money if they get you at 180 TC
Hmm so you want to say I should expect ~180k
I made 130 as Senior in Texas a few years ago so yeah
