Private Pilots

All the private pilots on blind, how many hours did it take before your first solo? I have logged 70 hours and haven't yet soloed. Any tips on getting it efficiently?

Took me 28 hours to do my first solo

took me only 7. jk. story time. went on a date with a girl who had a ppl. i was curious and asked her how long it took her for her first solo. she gave me a 40 part answer over text about how comparing time to do solo is bad and frowned upon. my question was based out of genuine curiosity. i asked her to give me a short answer. i lost it and googled the answer. now i think she was probably embarrassed about her solo time.

I soloed at 9 hours. Have you been disciplined with training regularly? Have you had real CFIs who let you feel things out yourself or do they step in whenever you make any minor mistake? Do you have any experience with sailing or boating (the skills learned in managing speed and momentum in water is transferable, in my opinion)? Also, is English your first language and how are your radio skills? At 70 hours, you have some problem solving to do as to why it is taking so long to solo. What areas are you most struggling in? Has the feel of flying just not clicked yet?

My CFI says that my radio communication, normal landing etc are good. He just asked me to improve situational awareness -- to fly without any compass or heading indicator. He told me that I need to improve on checklist usage. I think I had once messed up crosswind landing in gusting wind @13G20 and probably that could be the reason he is not signing off for stage check.

That’s crazy. Your first solo should be in the pattern on a nice day. All those things should be improved and are necessary to be a competent pilot, but it comes with more time in the air being responsible for yourself and the familiarity and confidence you gain from that. Sounds like either your CFI is stringing you along, or you’re not being critical enough of yourself. Have you tried going up with a different CFI? Regardless of whether or not you’re ready to solo, it’s clearly not working—either they’re being too soft handed in critiquing you (because if you’re not ready to solo, you clearly don’t understand why) or they’re not going to let you progress by helicoptering on you.
