Can anyone clarify what a Product Specialist does at Facebook? Is it more of a data analyst role? Or is it for folks who want to be a pm but didn't make the cut
The PS I know doesn't like it and always try (unsuccessfully) to move to PM
Some carve out interesting responsibilities out of it but structurally it’s support role with very little influence. I know one case where PS switched to PM and one to Data Eng but it’s not very likely.
I think it's a stepping stone on the path to being a PM or Product Owner... You specialize in a product, collect bugs, do some analysis, and are between the PM and the tech resources...
Product specialists are all miserable and looking for an out. They likely took the role thinking it was an easy "in" to the company but end up in a terribly confused org with unclear expectations. It's near impossible for a product specialist to switch into Product Manager role. You need a VP to sign off for you to even interview. For TPM, you can interview without VP sign-off but if given the role, you'll be down-leveled since Product Specialist is not a "technical role"
It’s in between QA and Analyst. Very not significant. Organize bug bashes, create/monitor dashboards, connect the dots on workplace (FB for work).
