Core electro-mechanical engineer with Master's. Want to explore a career as a product manager in the tech industry. Little or no experience with programming. 1 year industry experience as validation engineer. I gave been applying to entry level PM role at all the tech companies but without any luck. Someone has any suggestion to improve my chances? Or guide me on to a right path.?
Why not start as project/program manager?
My interest in product management developed after I started working at my current role.
It would take an MBA and atleast 10 more years before I can do that in my current company.
A few options — there are tech agencies in Grand Rapids, MI that work with Caterpillar. You could leverage your knowledge to get a PM job there for a year, and then move up. Another option could be to join a start up for a year and then move up. Last option, would be to launch your own product / business.
Transition in your existing company to PM. It’s the only way
It would take an MBA and atleast 10 more years before I can do that in my current company. Besides I want to switch to the tech industry.
