I’ve already had 2 internships at Amazon for a total of 6 months worked at the company. I’ll be starting full time soon as an sde1. Realistically, how long can I expect it to take to receive my promo to sde2? Should my prior experience provide a significant advantage to say a fresh new grad? I was aiming for 1.5 yrs.
1.5 years is possible and realistic if you can start doing useful things right away.
You can actually get promoted in a year if you've previously interned more than once. I got promoted to SDE2 (from SDE1) after 1.5 years after having once interned at a subsidiary (never Amazon). It's entirely dependent on your team, management (all the way to L8 directors), and projects.
Facebook promotes from E3 to E4 in one year typically, so I imagine it should be similar at Amazon?
Lol no, amzn requires a bunch more stuff like design complexity, mentorship, impact. Fb is like being independent and deliver and....bam you are promoted. Now you do the above.
