What type of documents or proof do recruiters ask for to verify numbers in counter offer?

Most people who have actual offers know that official offer letters are rarely sent to you until you indicate that you intend to accept. Prior to that smart recruiters get you on the phone and give you the details verbally. So tell El Goog that you’d have to fake intention to accept to get things in writing letter which is kind of a low move.

When I had an offer I didn’t want to use it to negotiate, I simply wanted Google to hurry up so I know what to do, so they quickly rejected me... 🤣

... which wouldn’t have hurt so much, if it weren’t for the fact that several problematic coworkers who weren’t meeting expectations at Bloomberg or barely meeting them, got in. One of them was on PIP courtesy of my bullet proof code reviews.

Googles process is actually causing a brain drain. The only people who will put up with 4 months if interviews and their horrible candidates experience at every point are desperate. So Google is only getting candidates no one else wants.

The one exception is new grads and under 3 yoe. But that's not who you build a company on.

Google asked me to scan copy of the offer letter (I didn't). No one else has asked for proof.

But then how would recruiters be able to validate any "resonable" counter offer. Couldn't anyone in that case say that they passed google interview and got an offer ?

Its like you are selling in an auction but the buyers are in different rooms and u go around bumping numbers back and forth. Im sure recruiters are not that stupid.

    • Dude why can’t the company just make their best offer? Like tell me why on earth am I supposed to play this game? If Google makes a great offer and say take it or leave it, it makes life easier right?

@aQxx50 yes, recruiters are that stupid. Recruiter is dumping ground of professions. Ie I studied art history and now I need a job.

Also all offers are verbal to start with, so this is just a reality.

@20YangGang. I 100% agree. I hate how google does this. Its very bad, and helps maintain wage gap. Since your not allowed to ask salary history in CA and WA anymore, this is how google gets around it.

One approach mentioned on another thread:

Email the other company with something along the lines of “Thanks for the details, trying to confirm my notes, he’s what I wrote down from our conversation. Let me know if this looks accurate.”

      Once they confirm, forward email.
