Which pays more faster, assuming you are competent?

I am guessing trading because you have more control early on.

Does trading give you more opportunity to make profit early on?

Depends on how much capital they let you start off with.

If the analyst is making 70k you'd probably be better off investing the minimum $10k or whatever in a prop firm I think.

Prop trading just means you're trading proprietary capital. A fund takes outside money. What they then do with that money may be the same or different.

I'm just assuming minimum investment. If they provide a larger portfolio after a year of putting in 10k it seems like the prop would make significantly more. Can hedge funds analysts trade?

10k? Like.. ten thousand dollars? That's a mostly negligible amount of capital. Analysts can trade but typically don't. They do research which is used by the PMs who trade.

The bucket shops claim to increase the capital you manage, so 10k becomes 1m managed after a year
