Pros and Cons of Moving to Texas

Considering the price of housing and the quality of schools, Texas seems like a good choice compared to the Bay Area for us. Before we make a decision, any thoughts from the community on what you think about jobs over there in the tech industry?

Republican place

Austin is the best place for tech. Currently a lot of people moving to the city but places are still reasonable. Best schools consider a house for 400k.

Definitely. Anything over 100k tc will let you be comfortable here. And the tech scene is popping all over the place. Tbh ocne you come here you'll think, why did I live in the bay area and stress

Good move, way better than Bay Area

Austin is the best. Depending on your skill set, lots of Bay Area tech companies are expanding to Dallas & Houston as well. Also, consider work from home roles for tech companies anywhere in the world.

Texas- Austin will fail eventually. Heres why: 1. Weather & good university system are must. Texas has only one good school - UT Austin. 2. No international airport. 3. Republican policies

4. Flawed thinking by GoRams

What do you mean, "Texas will fail"? What does that even mean. Here's what I think: your grammar is lax because Symantec has screwed your brain so hard that you're not able to maintain a normal train of thought. Just like the arguments you gave of why it "will fail"

Cons are random shootings

Shooting can and does happen anywhere. Nowhere is safe. It's just luck.

Microsoft qicbedjj52 Sep 6, 2019

It’s been happening more in Texas.

Lots of companies have zero business being in the bay area. Unless you are a unicorn that will experience hyper growth, you do not need the talent density of the bay area. Also, there is a highly competitive culture in the bay area, as opposed to collaborative, that leads to the region's talent drastically overstating their true capabilities to the point they believe their own bull.

Weather sucks in Houston, definitely cheaper than bay area but NOT as cheap as it it used to be, especially in good school district, but you get a lot more for your money. I'll repeat weather sucks. High property taxes, great food, traffic is rough on freeways so location matters...

Oh the hurricanes, flooding festival, high crime rate in certain neighborhoods as well.
