I've heard that proximity to money is the best path to take career wise. I'm assuming this happens in tech careers as well. Does working on a team that makes money vs being a cost center offer better benefits all around? I'm thinking progression, perks (off sites and swag), reputation, etc.. Example would be like Ads vs Compliance
You should look at promo and compensation data for Google available internally. There really isn't that much difference, at least for quantifiable things - maybe tiny differences. Google is also so big that your reputation stays within the PA anyways, unless you get to director and above level. Probably different depending on companies though.
Sorry I should specify group reputation. I get it too, like stronger performers who are ambitious are likely to go for "sexier" roles in product and other similar areas where the company is making money, so overall the experience one is gaining is going to be better and more valuable coming from these groups That's just my theory and observation
I think there is group reputation, but not necessarily one being strictly better than the other but more about the type of engineers the PA attracts. I think if your personality and goals align more closely to a certain PA than another, seems wise to consider a move.
Yes
That's been my experience. Sales is more highly paid and incentivized through bonusus than account management and product management. Devs make bank, though.
