I am a Product Manager, and have a non-CS major from my undergrad. However, I would love to bolster my CV for a career in tech by taking online coursework / projects / other initiatives which help as a proxy for a CS degree (or convince future employers that I am decently adept and technically fluent). Currently I do not feel the lack of a CS degree since whatever little coding I learnt in undergrad seemed to give me a good ability to understand tradeoffs, and my work till date has proved the software nuances to be fairly manageable. However, I will have to convince future employers of the same through something on my CV. I want to bolster my CV with a proxy for a CS degree/coursework. Any suggestions Blind?
Not coding boot camps, learn real CS theory, start with MIT online CS material then I’d recommend trying to get into a Masters program. If you want anyone to take you seriously.
Blame companies for hiring PMs this way. Before I gave up and focused on SWE roles I tried to get a PM job from a technical + business background out of uni. Didn't work, and always saw the same companies hiring people with no technical background.
Thanks for the tips offByOme. Any alternatives to a full blown masters? Or do you recommend enrolling into a remote Masters program
Umm enough non-CS people have been successful PMs @ouo! This here is my way of making my CV idiot-proof.
