5 years or experience as QA automation engineer, currently working in a small company, experience in python. Thinking about moving to SDET roles at bigger company (possibly FANG) Motive: to advance career, better company and better compensation. Current: 120 TC. Requesting suggestions in terms of TC for SDET role, challenges and growth?
SDET is just a fancier name for QA automation. If you want to advance then leetcode and go for SDE
Thanks for the info :)
You think without experience as SDE but cracking the interview would enough to get into SDE roles? Do you advice building port folio. I am looking into Django and doing some my own projects outside work. Would that be an advantage over taking Masters in CS and go apply to SDE role?
F doesn't have SDET roles afaik. G has "EngProd" which is closest to SDET roles. There is a TE role which is essentially QA automation. Apple is your best bet, that continue to hire lots in this role. My suggestion is to take a course to brush up your software eng skills and move to a SWE role. SDET-like roles are fewer, and lots of larger companies seem to be reducing hiring for that role.
Thanks for info :)
Ive bachelors in Comp Engineering. But don’t have a Masters, you think having a masters in CS makes easier to get into SWE role? Also how is the TE and EngProd role at G?
