Hi Everyone i have an L4 sde 2 offer from Qualtrics seattle. wanted to know about quality of work, eng work culture and work life balance in the company. are there any red flags after SAP acquisition?
It's not great. A lot of the stack is old and there is a lot of tech debt. There isn't a great amount of documentation and on boarding takes forever. I would recommend staying away and looking elsewhere.
Onboarding takes forever? Either we did 2 different onboarding systems (late 2018 for me) or you came in with weaker technical skills than most of our new hires
@glDj06 How did Qualtrics onboarding compare to other companies? Or are you an l3 with no ability to compare to how other companies operate on their engineering side? Everything is manually done at Qualtrics. Creating Jenkins jobs, dockerfiles, jenkinsfiles, vault stuff, hiera/qamel stuff, data centers, etc. It's all manual or non standardized stuff at Qualtrics, that's why it takes so long to onboard. Qualtrics has had the least intuitive and least automated handling of engineering systems I've seen out of the 3 prior companies I've worked at. Go deploy a new service and see how long it takes and see how many different systems you have to touch and understand just to get something up and running.
Work is shallow patching of shallow...ahem..foundation built by new college grads. Expect to learn many customizations of common tools (Nomad, etc) that are useless outside of Qualtrics. Eng goals are set by sales selling non-existent features. Under SAP benefits and the total package are slowly shriking, boiling-a-frog style.
What do you think of the qualtrics api? Iâm forced to work with it at the company I work for but at times I think itâs designed in a way that they donât even want people to use it.
I'm not familiar with the Qualtrics APIs, but "designed" is a big stretch when used towards any Qualtrics solution. The APIs are probably better than the internal Qualtrics standard.
Culture is cool! Work life balance is good better than Amazon , google type of companies and may not be as good as Microsoft with 30hr weeks . Lots of challenges aligning ENG with product roadmap . A lot of teams do use the latest tech stack probably better than Goldman. Plenty of opportunities to take ownership as a L4 Engg. How much TC have they offered you?
Not bad not great
SAP corrupting is gonna happen but itâll be slow. Get in while the comp is still good and get your three years and leave. Itâs a solid place to be that is growing, nice mid sized startup, with lots of room for impact and improvement. Three years is definitely enough time to hit L5 too and then just ride that wave into a way better gig.
