Quant Researchers: Please help if you have prior experinces

I have a PhD in Electrical Engineering (focused on Applied ML) from Ivy and 2 Yoe @Google. I’m bored at Google and am considering jumping to top hedge funds. I’d appreciate it if you could let me know: 1. if I’d have a high chance of getting interviews (and possible offers) from top firms for Quant Researcher roles. 2. Does the fact that I spent two years at Google (working on a deep learning project and I’m not a new grad anymore) hurt my chances? I feel I was stronger in math/stats before joining Google when I was a new grad but can prepare for the interviews. Thanks all TC: 300

My shop would 100% interview you at least and I think most would (pedigree screening is broad with "Ivy" (no offense to Dartmouth...)). But yeah we'd care a little more about the math/stats than specifically deep learning, but strong understand of the underpinnings of ML is a plus. We care about your skill set in math and cs that you picked up in grad and Google than the specifics of what you're doing right now. If you can do coding, math, and stats, everything else is pliable

Great! Could you please let me know your firm? I’m good at math/stats, but definitely need preparation/review. My coding skills is solid (c, java, python, R). I’m about to start a 6-month preparation plan to cover all aspects covered in the interview but I was a bit concerned that I’m less marketable than a fresh grad. Thanks for your comment

Reasonable chance of getting interviews, just make sure to hammer your quantitative background on the resume. Helps if your research was highly quantitative. Most hiring from what I’ve seen is for new grad, but I don’t think two YOE at Google would hurt your chances.

Try to tap into your alumni network and uni's career resources. The elite HFs actively recruit from most Ivy campuses. Some of them even have written math tests for QR.
