Hi, i will be graduating soon, and trying to understand how Quant researcher positions stacks against Ml positions at software companies. I have good background in NLP and DL/ML, and dont like working on standard software issues. Wondering where i should spend more of my energy applying. ps: never hurts to ask for a referral
Very few people in quantitative trading or asset management use deep learning. If you're interested in DL, work at a tech firm. Google is far ahead of everyone else in DL There are lots of good reasons to be a quant, but working on DL isn't one of them.
You got PhD? No, then quant is not for you
May not be true for some firms. I got quant intern offer at jpmc back for summer. Left it for nvidia, but looking back, i see that i havent done much of ml, dl here at nvidia despite being dl intern. This makes me wonder.
