This question is for those of you who would be considered 'hiring managers': There is a candidate amongst your applicants who possesses all of the basic must-have qualifications listed on the posting for your opportunity but is missing one nice-to-have skill. They also show signs of creativity through personal pursuit of self-development and acquisition of new and relevant skills that would be appealing to your organization. However, they've been at the same company for a number of years, one that carries a bit of a reputation of being slow and not very innovative. Does your interest in and consideration of this candidate change? Do you slate them for an interview, or reject them?
^ this. Also, there are fast and innovative people in a slow and not so innovative company. The fact that this person seeking for a change is a good sign already. As the Android bot mentioned about, a phone screen is a good idea.
I think in general, having all of the requirements and having some technical achievements is typically a sign for an interview?
It depends. Being in a same company doesnât mean you worked in a same team and on a same thing. Itâs also a sign of loyalty. As mentioned above, would never ignore that kind of application, but it would shape my phone interview a bit different.
I have interviewed and hired candidates matching your description, with good results. In one case the candidates employer came up with a matching counter-offer. I remember discussing with the candidate why it was unwise to take it.
Predicting someoneâs future potential based on data from the past can lead one to reject good candidates. A phone screen is a good way to decide if you want to bring them in or not
