I’m going to quit Amazon this week. Any thoughts on what to say on the way out? How did other folks departures go? Did you tell them if you were going to a competitor?
Just be honest. At the end of the day, you'll forget all about it though, so don't think too much about your exit interview and put people down on your way out. Like-wise, they'll forgot about you as well. Look forward not backwards.
Considering an AWS offer. What don't you like about working there?
It has gotten very bureaucratic with significant layers of reviews that I just don’t feel add value. I think the AWS has gotten larger than its organizational infrastructure can handle. It needs more technology resources for its employees to do their work and I feel they need a bit of house cleaning of many of the folks that have been riding the train for 10+ years. These folks have been able to stay for too long not because of their talents, but merely because they needed bodies to fill roles. Their only talent is their tenure, and that to me isn’t a talent. Not impressed.
+1 I kinda agree. Some folks either senior/principle don’t seem to have tech skills nor architectural design competency, but they are there because they were here longer and can ask a bunch of questions.
You do not have to fill the exit interview. I did not do it.
Dont burn bridges period. You never know how life turns out to be and you may very well end up working with the same team members.
Yes don’t burn the bridge, our industry is small and you either will work with same folks in other company or AWS will rehire you in a higher level in a year or two. If i were you, I would make sure to connect to folks you respect before you leave.
There is nothing to gain by being negative during your exit interview. Better not to burn bridges.
Imho be honest, don't take names and don't get personal. Constructive criticism is preferred to blunt remarks. Let the H.R know what worked & what didn't and when/where things went south. It's up to them how they take your feedback. Be careful to not point fingers to individuals.
And bother them telling where you are going . Thay simply doesn't help
You don’t gain anything from burning bridges, but you should talk to them depending on your relationship with your management. I would be honest with some of your concerns. The conversation should have goals, and tangible requests not a complaining session.
You gain nothing by being negative and doing the exit interview .
What’s wrong in giving exit interview? Isn’t this mandatory? I agree with not burning bridges though.
It's certainly not mandatory! The exit interview is standard HR BS. It had no benefit to the employee. Sure you can do it if you like your manager/team but it's a favor you're doing for them
