Yes, although compound interest reminds me this is a stupid idea If you don’t need the money, go for it.
Talk about taking a sabbatical, or an extended vacation, with your employer. Be reasonable- when all the traveling comes to an end- don't you want a gig waiting for you? Rather than looking for one.
+1 ..on asking to take a sabbatical or unpaid leave. I'm all for taking time off to travel and be happy but it would definitely give me piece of mind knowing I had something to come back to.
How long do you have to be at Amazon to ask for a sabbatical?
Another possibility-- get a few offers from other companies, and accept one that will let you take a few months off between jobs. That's how I've done this kind of thing in the past. Yes, this means I go a few months without a paycheck, but the bump from the new offer and the recharge and perspective I get from the time doing other things more than makes up for it.
People here only care about salary so they’ll probably tell you you’re an idiot... that’s why anonymous sites suck though ... also what’s with all the people giving super personal details? Like exact salary offers... seems a little naive
Not everyone here is being truthful. There was a post by a troll on here that was completely made up about some 300 lb man child MRA who had an addiction to escorts
OP - at the end of the day, it is your choice. When you look back at your life after 10 years, if you will feel like you missed doing something when you are young, go for it. Few of my colleagues did the same - one just took a break from work stress, and partied for an year. Another went for hiking for almost a year. Couple others went on world tours. As for sharing personal info like salaries/personal info here, that is the beauty of the anonymous site. I know there are trolls who don't have anything productive to do with their time, and so create fake posts but most of them are genuine. I always thought that I am very well paid in my domain. It's not until I joined Blind that I realized that I am just close to average. A lot of people benefit from such info - Specially with negotiations and improving their current situation.
