General software engineer hire in Bay Area, with 1 year experience. Currently have three offers, one late stage e-commerce startup, Cruise Automation and Salesforce. All of them came up with comp around 120k base 10k sign on and 100k RSU over 4 years. I see a lot of offers getting more than 100k RSU here on blind, but consider the fact they are for way more senior positions. Is 100k normal for 1 year experience? Should I push for more? What’s your preference between these companies?
100k - 150k is good beyond that is great, 200k+ is really something
You can continue to negotiate for cruise if you have competing offers. I got an offer for under 2 years experience and got more base and RSUs than that - and don't forget about PSUs, which should probably be about another 100k. Source: did this, had higher base and RSUs than that
200k would be insane for my experience level, but I am sure I can get way more than 100k. About PSU, out of the years you have been at Cruise, did they pay off 100% of the PSU(hit all company goals)?
I haven't been there that long but we've hit some of our goals already. I don't know how much I can tell you but this is a good thing to talk to your recruiter about - he explained it in depth to me. $200k psu/RSU is the way it is because 1) psus can be hard to hit and 2) that's how our bonuses work. We have refreshers and all that too but I think psus are the main source of what you would consider bonuses elsewhere (someone correct me if I'm wrong but this is how I understood it).
100k is pretty good for MTS at SFDC (I’m assuming thats what you got title wise for 1 year exp)...given that Cruise and the late stage start up haven’t had a liquidity event; their RSU numbers are much less guaranteed. There might be wiggle room on SFDC salary if you ask.
Cruise was acquired by GM back in 2016. RSU value is tied to gm stock.
yeah this is a junk claim, cruise is definitely worth real money. GM stock is pretty stable.
100k rsu for 1 year exp is really awesome. Am with company for so long, I never got 100k seriously
Salesforce has no refresh system...look into other companies, do they refresh every year?
You should negotiate signing bonus at Salesforce. They gave me 25k, I said no and it was upped to 50k. Looks like they are leveling you at mts, which is one level higher than amts.. Amts get 125k base, so you can definitely get more as mts. Negotiate. Tell all companies you have competing offers.
Thanks so much! Will def negotiate for more

Annual Bonus and ESPP should also be considered as part of total comp (if they have them), it can bump up salary another 10k-20k.
