I received an offer from Splunk with only 120k RSU. 10+ yoe as a business role. I feel this is very low. Do you know what should I expect?

Useless without the other TC details.

TC 225k

From what I know, Splunk offers RSU units as opposed to the amount it translates to. How many RSU units have you been offered? Not entirely sure if the ceiling for max RSU units is lower for business roles compared to technical roles or not, but for Snr technical roles (SDE's, PM's) I have heard 2000 units being the upper ceiling.

No units, I was offered 120k

Not sure that makes much sense. Did they offer you a $$ value? Must be different for non tech roles in that case. In my case I was offered a fixed number of units the $$ value of which ofcourse will fluctuate depending on stock price.

Is it 120k RSU per year or over 4 years (120k / 4 = 30k per year)?

Salesforce bWcc53 OP Jun 27, 2019

Over 4 years. Sounds low?

Recently left Splunk after management got stingy with RSUs. The company has reduced RSU payouts as percentage of TC, for both initial offers and annual refreshers. If you have leverage to negotiate your offer, focus on base pay rather than bonus (I’ve never heard of an exception to the percentage which is tied to level, a P4 engineer gets 15% and P5 gets 20%, assuming a meets-expectations review). Keep a low profile and maximize your productive results if you take the position.

Great advice. A couple of questions. Could you elaborate on the change in the management. Could you elaborate on keeping a low profile. Thx

Good point. Bonus is fine but I will have to negotiate on base as well

OP, it’s very very low! Looking at your TC, 120k is very low, and you should ask the recruiter for the number of RSUs, not the value.

Salesforce bWcc53 OP Jun 27, 2019

Is it make sense that the value will be translated later to units? Assuming that’s what they will do, what is the recommended value to negotiate on?

Splunk .Conf Jun 27, 2019

It will be translated to units on the offer. What the recruiter is doing, they are trying to negotiate a total value instead of number of units right now. Because, let’s say, if they’re negotiating a number of units, the total value might increase / decrease based on the stock price. So if you’re comfortable with that risk, I say insist of negotiating number of units I can recommend without knowing what that title / seniority is :-)

It is low but we have been cutting down on RSU overall. I joined a 1.5 years ago with less experience than you and got 500 but a lot less $$ in salary
