I received an offer from Splunk with only 120k RSU. 10+ yoe as a business role. I feel this is very low. Do you know what should I expect?

From what I know, Splunk offers RSU units as opposed to the amount it translates to. How many RSU units have you been offered? Not entirely sure if the ceiling for max RSU units is lower for business roles compared to technical roles or not, but for Snr technical roles (SDE's, PM's) I have heard 2000 units being the upper ceiling.

Thanks, that’s what I also thought so. I will try to push over the amount you mentioned.

Very surprised to hear you got RSUs offered in $$ value. We all get them offered in units. On average it varies from 1,400 to 2,000 units over 4 yrs.
I am guessing it was a verbal offer because on paper it will always be listed in units.
You will also be getting refreshers starting on your first work anniversary, and vesting every quarter after that.

True, that was a verbal offer (via email). It would probably will be converted into units on the official contract. But the question is if value of 120k is low?

Over the last month all new offers are having their RSUs in dollar value and not in units. It will be this way going forward. Not sure how refreshers will be articulated yet. Likely the same way.

That dollar amount sounds inline with p4 or p5 roles depending on the domain.

OP, it’s very very low! Looking at your TC, 120k is very low, and you should ask the recruiter for the number of RSUs, not the value.

It will be translated to units on the offer. What the recruiter is doing, they are trying to negotiate a total value instead of number of units right now. Because, let’s say, if they’re negotiating a number of units, the total value might increase / decrease based on the stock price. So if you’re comfortable with that risk, I say insist of negotiating number of units

I can recommend without knowing what that title / seniority is :-)

Recently, alll RSU offers are now done in dollar value and not unit number.

Thanks Fixxxxxer! I’m an older Splunker and my offer had a unit so thanks for the update :-)
      OP, here you go!

After my job-change, the new employer gave me a dollar amount that was converted into a share-count of RSUs when the board signed off on our batch of new-hire grants, based on a 60-day average of closing prices. Splunk is adopting policies of ever-bigger companies each passing month. Soon it’ll be as employee-friendly as GE or Amazon.

Recently left Splunk after management got stingy with RSUs. The company has reduced RSU payouts as percentage of TC, for both initial offers and annual refreshers.

If you have leverage to negotiate your offer, focus on base pay rather than bonus (I’ve never heard of an exception to the percentage which is tied to level, a P4 engineer gets 15% and P5 gets 20%, assuming a meets-expectations review). Keep a low profile and maximize your productive results if you take the position.

      Great advice.

      A couple of questions.
Could you elaborate on the change in the management.
Could you elaborate on keeping a low profile.

      Thx

Good point. Bonus is fine but I will have to negotiate on base as well

@microsoft there was an exodus from Yahoo after acquisition by Verizon. Splunk management has recruited many, probably hundreds, from Yahoo. Also, the company built brand new facilities in San Jose which first opened in December 2016. It’s a fundamental change with this headquarters move 50 miles south.

My caution about keeping a low profile boils down to the competition for rewards (stack-ranking arrived with the Yahoo regime). You’ll be rewarded more if you don’t advertise yourself as a reward-seeker.

I can corroborate what ImaRainbow said. I received my offer couple of months ago and was told that they wont negotiate RSU due to some new policy. I was able to negotiate my base slightly but was given a hard no for RSU. Anyways not sure if I didnt negotiate well or if that's just the way it is going to be with everyone

    Is it 120k RSU per year or over 4 years (120k / 4 = 30k per year)?

It is low but we have been cutting down on RSU overall. I joined a 1.5 years ago with less experience than you and got 500 but a lot less $$ in salary
