Is it worth it to get a radar detector or is everything a laser detector around here?

It is worth it only on long trips. I’ve used one for years (Escort IX) and when you get out of the city, the cops mostly use old radar bands (Ka) One cop in Nevada even used an X band radar on me. Lasers are common in highly frequented areas. I know the cop near the Half Moon Bay exit on I-280 definitely uses Laser.

After a couple of years, you kinda know where the cops would most likely squat.

Unagi! A state of total awareness!

Valentine 1 works very well for lidar which is used a lot there. It’s prob illegal in ultra gay liberal California though so just hide it when not in use.

Detectors in CA are legal. Jammers and deflectors are not.

I’m honestly very shocked at that. Don’t let any dems hear about that they’ll write a bill to ban it before the weeks over.

The only thing that the cop may ding you for is if you are sticking your radar detector on the windshield in a location prohibited in California. However, I’ve never faced a problem, even when the cop has seen my rig (radar detector, GPS, dashcam). Except one asshole cop in Pennsylvania, they’ve all been very courteous when I’ve been pulled over.

@JohnMcPee what’s the rule in Pennsylvania. And how much do these cost?

There is no rule against radar detectors in any state except Virginia. The cop in Pennsylvania was rude as hell. I was driving a fast car (all rental cars are the fastest cars) and he was pissed that a Hyundai Accent overtook his unmarked Dodge Charger. Saw my rig, told me that those things don’t work, gave me a citation and just left. Yeah, no shit you’ll catch me if you pace me!

It's useless because radars are everywhete along the road on the pole.
And it can't tell if radar is on pole or in hand of a cop.

You get what you pay for. Nicer ones can keep track of past hits by gps and filter them out.

Lidar detection is entirely useless, need a jammer. So factor in both costs as you’re deciding. Ultimately depends when/where/how you drive.

I have a Uniden R3 that I use in the south bay. It’s a waste of money. Just use waze instead.
