New grad here...I double majored in EE and CS...got the this offer from Qualcomm Bay Area for HW Engineer: base 95k, signon 20k, RSU 22.5k vested over 3 years Is this a joke?! This is the only HW offer I have. I got SWE offers from Google, Citadel, Apple, FB, and those offers after negotiations have 2.5X the TC of the Qualcomm offer...and Qualcomm didn’t even accept negotiations. To be honest, I love hardware. That’s why I double majored. But now I really understand why no one in our EE department is looking for hardware jobs...
This is about right. Qualcomm's HW pay isn't that high. My dad had 20 YoE for HW there with a PhD and made $200k
Damn! 20yoe and phd and only 200K?? Is this TC or just the base?
This is the reality. You need to get an HW offer from Google or Facebook. They do a lot of chip works. But even so HW TC at G/F are lower then SWE's.
Yeah I also heard that. Why would anyone study HW in school then?!
It's all about Demand and supply.
Demand && Supply <> Supply && Demand
What's your area in SW? Considering you have a double major
Distributed systems, but it has almost nothing to do with hw
Qualcomm just doesn't have the cash to compete with those companies. They may have also concluded that someone will be willing to do the job for that amount and will do it as well as they need.
This. I worked for Qualcomm for 4 years and that was the starting salary for SWEs as well, with minimal raises. Theyve pretty much decided they don't need top talent to do the job they need to do Most of my coworkers ended up going to Google and FB for hardware and embedded sw
Welcome to real world kid! We are in capitalist society, you get paid by value you are adding not based on your skills. Fattest profit is in Software compared to any other type of business which is why it makes sense
Could you share which hardware team?
Qualcomm is cheap!
