Amazon offered 106k salary, 65k RSU, and 25k & 20k signing bonus for first and second years. 10k relocation.

I also have an offer for Apple in Austin at 105k salary, 50k RSU, and 10k signing.

Please give advice!! And I'm a new grad.

You will live better on that money in Austin.

I moved from Austin to Seattle for Amazon last year. Take the Austin offer! Amazon is a toxic sweatshop. Seattle is nice though.
Austin, overall, has a better quality of life and you will live so much better with that money there. Also, you can make a lot of friends quickly in Austin. Not so much in Seattle. There's a reason for the term "Seattle freeze". Of all the cities I've called home, Austin is, by far, at the top.

Seriously, I don’t understand why people like working for Amazon. It’s an extremely toxic environment and no management gives a s**t. Specially when the CEO thinks engineers are replaceable. No wonder they invest heavily on recruiting. Better to suck up all the blood of their current employees and replace them before their stocks vest. Attrition is very high for a reason. I’d never recommend to anyone. And no, I wasn’t fired. I left because I couldn’t put up with management incompetence.

The ones who like it - I think most are brainwashed with the kool-aid, and the abuse is normalized.

Look at all the Apple fan boys bashing Amazon. Seattle is great - houses are pricey because it's one of the most sought out places to live in the world. Amazon can be tough to work for (really all tech companies can be) but you will learn and grow very fast. If you're good, they will promote you quicker than other companies. You will likely work on big projects with a large impact fresh out of school.

That money is plenty to live off of in Seattle, and is quite good for a college hire. I budget $2,200 a month for living expenses and live just 1.8 miles from the office. If you want to live in luxury you should easily be able to do it for under 3k/mo. Also no need to own a car.

You can live like a king with that money in Austin
    - great city life
    - lower cost of living
    - no taxes
    - doesn't rain too much like Seattle

Try negotiating a little more if you want.

Don’t even think twice. Amazon is a sweatshop. Go for Apple in Austin. Weather is probably not going to beat Bay Area, but you’ll have a much better life quality in Austin. Seattle is also nice, but Amazon is a horrible place to work.

Apple easily. You’re taking less now but have a brighter future, plus Austin is cheaper.

Fwiw, there is no state income tax in Washington as well. Also SDE life varies widely from org to org. Do your research on your org and your mgmt chain via searching here, glassdoor, etc. There are some amazing people here, but I know groups and managers exist that send people off buildings...

Also, TX is white af and people get conservative rq about the dumbest shit. If you're white, probably not a big deal. If you're not, or h1b, might want to keep that in mind. I had some great times in TX, but it doesn't live up to the hype IMO.

I would take Apple unless you want to be in Seattle long term. You're giving up a slight bit of compensation in the short term, but having Apple on your resume you're set long term. $105k is a great income for Texas, not to mention fresh out of college. I'm in Dallas, and by base is only about 25% more, despite having 15 years experience and being pretty good at what I do. You'll do great either way, so pick which area you'd prefer to be.

Austin is better in cost of living and quality of life term. Apple also have yearly bonus which depend on your performance. Amazon’s 65 rsu is not enough for four years. You clearly have better offer with Apple if you look for total compensation in four years.

    Apple, don't think twice.

We have a guy who join from Austin and his raise to Seattle end up being a paycut after living cost.

Apple will be a more famous company on your resume than Amazon.

      1) what does that have to do with working there?

      2) do you prefer Amazon screwing its employees instead?

You can be happy at either company if you work hard and get lucky with team placement. I say go to the location you prefer.

Austin is more fun than Seattle/SFO

better weather unless you like rain/wind. summer is worse but you have lakes 20 min away.

people are fun and very friendly.

    no state taxes in TX.

inside the city its expensive but 20 min out you can buy a 3.2.2 for 300k.

money wise you will be the same but other factors will make a big difference.
