Got an offer from Bloomberg for 131k salary, 13k first year bonus, 10k relocation. How is this for a new grad?

I also have an offers from Apple in Austin at 105k salary, 50k RSU, and 10k relocation and Amazon at 106k salary, 25.5k first year signing bonus, 20.5k second year signing bonus, 65k RSU, and 10k relo in Seattle.

I'll agree that Seattle is boring, but I'd totally live in Austin, I really like the city.

Wtf. How is Seattle /pnw boring? I spend my winters skiing and summers hiking, sailing and kayaking. Wouldn’t ever leave Seattle.

I ran away from Austin and gound home in Seattle. Austin was not my kind of city - too hot, not as great tech scene, middle of nowhere, too many critters. Never returning. Overhyped IMO

Clearly Bloomberg offer us s much better, not sure why everyone is recommending Apple. I don't think there's any prestige difference between Bloomberg and Apple. Bloomberg beats both $$$ wise and location wise. I'd pick Bloomberg if I were in your shors.

      Really? What’s the difference like?

Afaik my BB offer is very similar to FB new grad without conversion and more than Amazon new grad with conversion.

FB E3 can be close to 200K a year while most of the senior here just make a little over 200K :)

  • Apple of course. This is a no-brainer. Better exit ops than Bloomberg. And you leave with your sanity compared with Amazon

      OP
How significant is the difference in exit ops? I thought there were better opportunities in NYC vs Austin
      Oct 3, 2017
    • By exit ops, I meant Apple on your resume opens a whole lot more doors (or catches more hiring manager attention) than Bloomberg on your resume. I am talking about the entire country here, not just NYC. You need to define what kind of opportunities will be "better opportunities" for you 3 or 4 years from now. Of course, if settling in NYC is at the top of your priority list, you should choose the company that has strong roots there... Bloomberg.

Apple - Austin is a great city, cost of living is the lowest. You’ll have the best work / life balance, plus be set up for a higher salary in whichever role you want next.

The only reasons for Amazon or BB are if you’re interested in the work you’ll be doing on those teams.

Ps. Use your Amzn offer to negotiate a higher offer from Apple.

I got similar offer from Bloomberg and Amazon. I took Bloomberg because of the culture and other perks ( things like philanthropy , living in NYC, etc ) . But if I had to go purely by highest paycheck or brand name , I probably would have chosen Amazon . I don’t know if my decision is correct but so far I am happy with my choice

FFS, I am surprised to see how many Apple fan boys out there. Y’all need to notice OP is already at Apple and looking to move to Austin location( which is for non business essential shitty teams). Also not all products are equal at Apple.

Most HW teams under Srouji are equally shit. @OP: why would you wanna take an offer in ops, you can’t code? Just make sure it’s not InfoSec, IS&T or SEG.

Apple or Amazon over Bloomberg any day. You'll make nearly 2x at your next hop from Apple or Amazon if you play your cards right vs. Bloomberg.

You didn’t mention what kind of role. But based on numbers you gave I say take the Amazon offer. It’s the highest overall and Seattle is a cool city. Put in a few years there, at least two. Then start considering Apple in Cupertino.

How is Amazon the highest? It’s 65k over 4 years with the absurd backloading. (5/15/40/40)
      Oct 3, 2017

Wow. I think I read that as 165k. I didn’t know about the vesting schedule. That’s insane.

Not really the highest when you look at cost of living. It's dirt cheap in Austin. Buy a McMansion for 350k

  • Apple DYRD07
If you already work for Apple, then you should know the teams in Austin are not business critical ones and mostly an extension of teams. I would not recommend joining any team in Austin. It’s a career killer and you may kiss those yearly refreshers goodbye because you lose visibility and low cost of living(among other things).

Are you a developer? 4 years running in Austin, I've never not gotten RSUs, same for everyone on my team.
