I’m in the negotiations phase and there has been some numbers thrown around. It is getting close, but with the drop in stock market, my TC doesn’t sound so great anymore. How good is it to ask for more now? How would you phrase it as I’m sure some people are in the same situation as me.
Stupidity. What would you have done if this happened after you joined. This shows you are greed for money which is bad
No one is working pro bono. Crash in stock price adversely affects ones total comp and is a reason to give second thought about the package
Then you guys should join a place where there is no stocks given as a part of tc Will you be generous enough to ask the cut off stock goes up. What I am saying is don't quote this and ask for more money. That's stupidity
Go back to the previous offers you had. I joined a company and their stock tumbled 2 weeks after I joined, I should have gone to other offer right then and there.
Did you join when the stock was $97?
It’s foolish - if the stock goes up will you ask for a cut ?
Exactly
You are right, but I’m not a multi billion company which makes billions. I do have a family to care for and with the drop it makes less sense for me to move companies.
Why don't you try negotiating in terms of value instead of stock units? For example if 100RSU is 200k and if u are unsure of stock market, try negotiating for 200k worth of stocks to be vested over the next 2 years or so....that way you won't loose out TC during correction but u won't benefit from a bull market either.
This is what has happened, few weeks ago the negotiations was that. Now the 100RSU is worth 150k. We are still in negotiations for other things. Should I revise RSU to 125RSU so I’m getting 200k when everything is finalized and I get actual offer letter?
it's almost always fine to negotiate but don't use the stock market as a justification. that's dumb
