Is this true? Is this also common at the other competing studios as well? How many people actually get converted to full-time? Would it be better to just apply for FT positions, or should I also apply to contractor roles in hopes that once my contract is over I can get converted?
Do you have an offer ?
There have been times that contractors have been converted to FTEs. I know of some people including myself (formerly Disney) and my boss here at Warner Bros.
But this does not happen often.
It certainly can happen, but there are two barriers. They hate to pay the bounty to the agency, so the hiring manager would usually have to wait until that agency’s bounty period has passed. Also, I have seen some divisions with a pretty strong bias against contractors – I mentality like “if they are A players, why would they be contracting instead of having a full-time position?” That’s pretty silly, but I have heard it from enough recruiters that it has to be coming from somewhere.
Haha haha its reasoning like this that I’m leaving Disney. What a fuckin stupid argument on both counts.
The benifit /discount /perk situation really weighs on contractors. There are also FTE only events, which makes people feel excluded and not valued. I believe this has a lot to do with the misconception that contractors are treated poorly.
Contractors are treated like cattle. It’s not a misconception.
I’d say conversion rate of contractors on my team is less than 5% over the last 5+ years. Even if they want to convert you it’s someone elses decision that is 3 bosses above yours an knows dick all about your contributions.
My team is 75% converted contractors. It’s all very dependent on the team.
I have heard , they don’t convert contractors into FTE. They get the same work done thru contractors as it is cheap to hire them.
