Nearing my two years at AWS and fed up with the ridiculousness (they need better D&I training!) I attended Afrotech last week and as a minority in tech it felt great that these big companies “seemed” like they wanted ME! I know it’s a recruiting tactic, they’ve got qoutas to meet, but all eyes on us and I hope they don’t take it for granted like where I’m at. Right before I moved to Amazon I was working as a PM but took a job as a BA..took a step back for the prestige of a big company. I got some great leads last week and starting to consider the next big thing in a TPM route but feel like my domain specific expertise may be limiting me. i know I’ll have to take the time to study some PMing concepts too (any reading recommendations would be apreciated). Many of my leads were in California. Any leads around Seattle and greater area?? Thanks! Hoping to find a better company with appreciation for different backgrounds.
Your expertise maybe limiting you and you want to blame it on Amazon D&I? 🤔 This doesn't make much sense, all companies recruit some for D&I and this is problem with that, talented minority too they are only there because of D&I so we don't need those quota but Silicon Valley is too far left to understand this & add quota for everything. Your D&I and next career path doesn't have any link and I don't see why you needed to bash Amazon here
Perhaps the way I wrote that came off wrong and I will review. In essence, I’ve had D&I issues at work and do not want to put up with them and thus looking for something else. I’ve noticed that because my manager cannot relate to the minorities on the team he is less willing to vouch for them and we do not get the same opportunities.
