Real Estate Investment in India

Anyone in US who can share their experience in buying real estate in india ? Is it a good investment option? How do taxes you pay get affected? I am looking to buy a small apartment possibly in Pune and rent it out. I am not sure how I should evaluate this investment option. Will appreciate if anyone can point to any articles or blogs.

You still give bribes to your uncle so he can arrange a safe passage through customs at the airport?

Again - You have never been to India, so don’t comment on what you don’t know. I visit indian twice a year and have never had to pay a sigle rupee in bribe, just follow the rules

    I would not recommend it.

The property appreciation is not much and rents are too low, Management is difficult.

Also there are host of issues when you sell the property, suppose you want to sell and convert INR to USD, historically INR has gone down vs USD so ur gains get lower, also there is 20% tax deducted at source.

All in all, not worth it.

I did it and ended up loosing money, not a lot but still I could have made decent investments in US and made more

Lot of people did it in early 2000s and made a ton of money as the Indian real estate market was growing 20%+ per year at the time
