I joined a no name mid level startup 1 month ago. At the same time I started interviewing at Google. Just got an offer from Google that I accepted TC 250. Planning to give my notice this Tuesday as to not ruin my bosses weekend and because I want health insurance for Sept. I understand I’ll burn bridges. I like my current boss and my team but the rest of the place is chaotic and not somewhere I see myself long term. If it were perfect I still would most likely have joined Google. What reason should I tell my boss?
I had a during semester internship at a local company when I was in my senior year of college... when I got the offer from Google, I just told them it was Google, and no one questioned the choice.
Be honest. It’s good for them to know how you perceive their issues as a new team member. That can give them the opportunity to improve for future hires.
Agree - be honest and humble so you don’t burn bridges. In the end you always lookout for your interests and do what’s best for your career and growth, and the company will look out for its own interest.
During interview process did the recruiter at this company ask you if you were interviewing else where . If yes, that makes it a bit easier saying Google came late on their offer and that the role there is a better fit for long term
Don't tell then where you're going. They may have people there and call them and put some made up negative input about you. They can see where you work when you updated LinkedIn
Generally agree with this but think it's fine to be honest/open in this case.
Dont burn bridges. Apologize and tell them Google interviews happened before start date and was late getting back to you.
Been through such a drama! Being honest and professional is the best policy. Just tell them Google offer came late. Google has a good brand power and maybe the Manager would “joke” with you to also refer him :) Nobody would be happy when someone leaves in a month of joining. This is for granted. But then you have to explain the situation and get the best for yourself. Please don’t do health and personal problem drama. That only complicates the discussion and if the manager is genuine he would unnecessarily be advising you about how to come out of non-existent problem. Best way is to keep head high and be polite but straight forward about your decision.
You are leaving and no-name startup to join Google. I would not worry too much!
This WILL burn bridges with them and you never know how that can affect you in the future. I knew someone that went to a different company and was talking smack about his Ms skip manager. Later on that mgr went to the same company as m2 in the same org and made the person's life miserable. Not the same, I know, and I'm not saying dont take the google job, just make sure you understand you put the company in a rough spot. Its unlikely they are going to spread lies about you and who would believe them in any case? Leetcode wins at google man. You may as well be honest and if they ask for feedback give it to them but you should make it clear that you're leaving because of the google offer.
Just say “joining google”. That’s all you have to say. Thank them for the opportunity and apologize for leaving but when google calls you answer.
I doubt anyone can argue with doing what is best for you. Joining google is a no-brainier.
