I had two loops with different MSFT teams last week, and I got ghosted. Reached out to both recruiter earlier this week and they said hiring manager still making a decision. Today one of the recruiters reached out to me to ask for expected comp. Is this a good sign that they want to offer, or am I projecting out my FAANG fantasies? Also, do I just respond with the usual prefer to discuss later? This is after onsite, so there's no 'later' step, its either offer or no offer. What's a good TC for Senior at MSFT if I need to open with a number?
By senior I assume you mean l63. You arent going to get 200 base. That is not in the realm of possibility and the recruiters will think youre just guessing. Try 180 base, 400k rsu/4, 100k sign on. If they really want you you'll get 170, 320, 80 or something like that. If they dont necessarily want you that much you may get 155,200,50.
Do you need competing offers to go that high 170/320/80? That's $270k+ TC!!! Since when did MSFT went that high for L63...
I've seen similar offers both with and without competitive offers. Competing offers always a good idea, though.
Never say a number. It can rarely help. Say "I don't really have a number in mind. You know more what value I can bring to the company, as I've demonstrated. I just know I want my next opportunity to be a significant step forward in both responsibility and compensation."
I rather say some high numbers than a bunch of BS.
That will get you 150, 120k, 30 sign on. Equivalent to saying "I dont know how your comp works so please lowball me". MS is able to get the talent it wants at bargain prices because of this exact phenomenon. Well that and a lot of people dont come with competitve offers.
OP - YoE?

People here are spitting out crazy numbers. 250k+ TC for L63 is not going to happen without solid competing offers
I've seen some in the 270ish range. A couple with no competing offer. These are the top of the line. But if you want sort of an upper bound to go I with those are aspirational numbers.
I believe that. the offer depends on where the candidate is coming from. If he is joining from a FANG and/or has a ton of unvested stock, then the offers could go that high. If not, getting such an offer is very unlikely
Open with $200k base, $175k RSUs, $100k sign on. You won't get it (maybe the RSUs...maybe) but it's a great anchoring point. I'm assuming SWE. How did you get ghosted if they asked you for comp?
That's not 375k TC if it's 175/4
You right. I can't math today.
