Recruiter asking to cancel other interviews

I have an offer from Uber Eats SF for a Data Scientist position. I am also interviewing with other companies including Uber ATG for AI Scientist, Deep Learning/ML Specialist roles. Uber Eats 's willing to better their offer only if I accept their offer and cancel immediately all interviews that I have scheduled (including ATG). Is this reasonable for a recruiter to ask?? What are the implications of accepting Eats but not canceling other interviews? Or, being open to them about completing my interviews with ATG? Background: ML PhD student focussing on large scale ML, optimization Update: Well, I asked for some bump in the offer.. the recruiter said she will get back to me and remained silent for a week (almost ghosted me).. when I finally checked - I got the following reply- “Thank you for following up. As of last week, the offer was what we originally put together for you with no adjustment. The offer is also past it's expiry date. If you do want to move forward with Uber then let me know by close of business today, otherwise you are more than welcome to revisit working at Uber in the future. Let me know if you have any questions” Must say I am rather annoyed with their attitude!!!

Sounds outrageous!

Crazy!

Sure, it's a negotiation strategy. Continue interviewing but make sure Uber Eats pays over the top if they want you to accept the offer.

Microsoft iuushk Jan 27, 2019

Say yes, and do the other interviews anyways, they cannot really stop you.

And lose negotiating power?

Dropbox drl/handle Jan 27, 2019

How would they know? They can’t stop you .

Google trickier Jan 27, 2019

Yeah. Same was done for me by Uber recruiter. I asked him for outrageous demands in exchange for cancelling other interviews. He dialed back his aggression. Then I said no to the recruiter.

If you’re more interested in the offer you have than the ones you might get, negotiate. Tell Uber you’ll do it for an extra 15k salary, 15k signing, and 40k RSUs. Otherwise, tell them you‘d like to see out your other interviews because you’d like to learn more about how other companies operate or some other generic, non threatening bullshit. I canceled my other interviews for my current gig and I feel I got a pretty good deal out of it because I was more interested in opendoor anyways. The recruiter gave me the offer and said “if you’re willing to cancel your other interviews I think we can work on these numbers a little bit”.

What’s total TC at opendoor ? I interviewed there, bunch of kids got the interview seemed pretty inexperience loop strategy Max they were offering was 220K

The scientific research department of my ass @elM90 @RHgo43 I’m in Atlanta and here it is a damn good deal. I do know we are less competitive in SF compared to other unicorns, and I believe we have a salary cap of 200k (but no equity cap that I know of). Joining in SF is definitely a bet on the company’s success - if we do well, your retrospective total comp will be far better, but if you just look at the current paper money value, you’ll be disappointed.

no, it’s not, but tell them yes and continue anyway. you can just renege if you get a better offer.

OpenDoor atleng Jan 27, 2019

this assumes you never plan on being interested in working at Uber again. Which... fair, but does narrow prospects.

personally, i’d accept it and ghost them. they deserve it just for asking.

you should ask for a new interview cycle (and ghost them if they do respond)
