We are 2 Indians planning to get married next year and we both are on H1B visas. Does anyone know the pros and cons of registering marriage in USA vs in india.. Around legal matters, filing for taxes jointly or individually, rights of married women etc
We got married in india but registered our Marriage in the US.
I got married in India and registered in India. I don’t see any advantage of registering in the US other than getting the Marriage Certificate without any jugaad/bribe (unless that issue doesn’t exist in the part of India you are from).
Mate you kidding ? They ask for bribe to issue marriage certificate?
Lmao
Have anchor baby in America.
🙄
Basically just calculate your taxes for married vs filing separately. Whichever is cheaper do that. I don’t know what you mean by “rights of married women” but she has all her rights here whether or not she’s married.
Makes no difference where you get married. Except maybe the color of the registration certificate. Also regarding bribes, you shouldn't have to pay any bribes to register a marriage. Now if you want super quick turnaround and whiteglove service, I can understand.
US has stronger laws and better records as no bribes. It'll also help establish US as the jurisdiction for any family law litigation, which would benefit the wife, though in most cases jurisdiction will be clear anyway.
