Has anyone regret moving to bay leaving a comparable WLB job in a not so expensive city? I see these towering TC’s but does anyone feel sad that they took an ambitious decision to move to bay and started working for a FAANG or an unicorn but end up disappointed and wish they didn’t take the decision to move ? I’m not talking about fresh grads or people in early to mid 20’s but someone in late 20’s and 30+
No, moving to the bay was one of the best decisions of my life.
As a foreign immigrant I wonder if it would have been better, had I moved to some quieter area / state. Now hard to move from this climate, and kids have friends, etc, but cannot afford a house. So will have to move. Also, COL degraded since I moved because of overpopulation. Yeah, it's ironic that I might be part of the problem myself.
Is buying the house the only drawback you feel? And anything on the career wise you feel likewise?
First - buying a house. Second - COL, because everything in SFBA stretched beyond it's capacity - traffic, lines everyone, super dense living conditions. It's just too many people on a tiny piece of land.
i dont like it here, but u know what, I haven't liked anywhere I stayed, so whatever
Indian ?? 😂😂
Yes because he said stayed instead of lived
Depends where you’re from. In 10 years here I’ve seen that most folks coming from China / India think it’s the greatest place on earth, while most Europeans move out/back after a couple years.
Almost 30. I did, couldn't complete a year (and it didn't help that I had the shittiest manager ever). Though I did have a slightly better social life. Moved back to SoCal, can't be happier. Now job hunting, don't plan to move from this area. 3x salaries are not worth the shithole that the Bay is
Bay area cost of living is over hyped. The only thing I end up spending more on is rent (or mortgage). Otherwise hardly makes a difference where I live. May not be the case if you've dependents of course. TC:310, yoe:7
State tax? New tax laws ?
There are more important things than money. I want a house. I want to be challenged. It's too crowded here. People are nicer in other parts of the country.
You can always rent a house. Or buying here gives you better property appreciation.
The houses for rent are even more expensive than the apartments and not as nice.... I should rephrase - I want a nice house. I don't want to pay a million dollars for what is considered a starter home in most the country
Seattle is where you wanna be
Lol
