Rejected for PM role. Recruiter said interview went well, no red flags but wasn't the right fit. Said if there are other PM roles I'm interested in to try again. Contemplating to try again since I like the product and premise. - is the recruiter just being nice about the feedback? - is there more to that feedback than meets the eye? - is it worth trying other PM roles there like what the recruiter mentioned? If so, should I wait or go for it since the interview is fresh in minds? Obviously a little discouraged...
Don’t worry about it and try again with a different team or hiring manager.
Yeah, could just mean the hiring manager chose not to go forward. Not a big deal. If they’re saying you could apply for other roles it usually means you got generally good feedback, so you should feel good about that.
Thanks folks. Appreciate the uplift. I'll give it another shot and move on. This is why I use blind 😁
Which team?
Haha might give me a way
No worries 😉 Recruiters in general don’t give too much away in terms of feedback. It really depends on how you scored, but if you managed to get “hire” ratings from everyone and just didn’t get an offer purely because of culture, then they’d naturally pass your profile around to other teams. If there’s any “no-hire” rating, you might be better off applying elsewhere.
.
Agree with what others mentioned - PM roles are hyper competitive so don’t take that to heart. Esp if there’s no red flags, so just be on the lookout for other roles! I’m trying to go for a biz role. Can you tell me if you applied online? Or did you go through a referral?
That generally means someone else was a better fit. Don’t be discouraged. Remember PM roles are hyper competitive at all good companies. And a better fit can simply mean an ex co-worker a hiring manager may have worked in the past or could be anything else. I’d suggest not trying to guess. Just apply for more roles.
Thanks for the encouraging words. I'll try more roles there. Would you recommend some cool-off period?
If it’s a different hiring manager, you don’t need a cool-off period. Talk to the recruiter.
