Has anyone done this? Feels bad. But is more logical. 😞 About to reject Google, for an offer from Microsoft. Better role at Microsoft, getting ML/AI work. Overall TC better at MSFT when considering COL.
Done that twice.
I mean, I really enjoy writing code, making money and having a work life balance. Being a SWE gives me all three, so why shouldn’t it be a dream? Sometimes I find it hard to believe that people are willing to pay $ for me to code. Even if I was magically financially independent tomorrow, I’d still be coding something up in my free time. Do dreams just have to be cliched stuff like traveling the world (done it, totally overrated), charity? (I donate to stuff but doesn’t really give me as much pleasure as people claim. Sometimes think people just want to be show offy about their charity and no one really can feel amazing just by donating $ to a cause but whatever)
Happens. Not everything lines up. They'll check in every year or two now that you rejected their offer. Get the experience and pay and see if they match next time.
Yeah. Lets hope this happens!
I can’t even get Microsoft to arrange any on-sites. Yet I was recently on-site at Google. Google is much easier to get into than Microsoft. I now see why some call it MicroShaft: to get hired you need to personally attract a needle-dicked manager and service him thoroughly.
I rejected them too. You can always change your mind later since they always seem to be growing. Apparently they have a recruiting team dedicated to folks who rejected them...I’ve received a call checking-in almost every year on the day since.
Thats a good sign, I look to join them two years or so later.
This is true. Those recruiters are assigned to you specifically and are role/team/office agnostic (as opposed to the normal recruiters who specialize), so you can pretty much tell them what you want to do and they'll go ahead and make the appropriate arrangements. Also, many G offers are actually valid for 6-12 months in case you change your mind.
You don’t reject Google, Google rejects you.
At this point, rather than making the decision, I hope they rejected me. :P
Don’t fuck it up Amazon Eng sorrryg dude
Do what is right for you. I wish I waited a year to join Google. I took less money and joined a team I wasn’t excited about because of the Google brand. Wait a year to get what you want.
You're insane if you're choosing Microsoft over Google. Don't do stupid things
It’s a very logical choice. Cant share details because it’d be easy to point me out.
Don’t generalize; my colleague did exactly that and going by his role in MS, I think he is much happier there. Yes, Google is the best paying employer but not every role is interesting!
Yeah I rejected them once! Few seconds later I realized it was a mistake. Another few seconds later I realized it was a dream!
Haha! Hope you get an offer too. :)
Then like my comment.
